July

July 2019
We continued our visit with Zariah in the first days of July.  We flew with Zariah and her Grandma Carter to California to be there for Leila's baptism.  The day we got there was the Fourth of July.  We had a barbecue and we went to the beach to watch fireworks.  It was very chilly in Monterey.  I never expected to feel cold on the Fourth of July.  It was an adventure.  Because Sister Carter was there as well, we stayed in an interesting hotel.  It was a Navy Lodge, but over one hundred years ago it had been one of the most luxurious hotels of it's time.  We had a very spacious comfortable room that was updated and remodeled.  The halls were huge and still had that old time feel to it.  We felt like we were walking back in time and we went through the elegant old building.  We visited fisherman’s wharf, took the 17 mile drive, we visited Carmel and Carmel beach and we visited Point Lobos and took some hikes along the scenic coast line.  Leila had a nice baptism and I gave a talk.  She looked so pretty in her white dress.  Loni’s Mom, and her brother and his family were also visiting.  It was nice to go to the hotel every so often to have some down time.  While we were there, I read a book called the Holy Secret by James L Ferrel.  It was really a good book.  It gave me insight into my own need to be better.
The staircases were very wide in the home.

I made myself a new garden jacket out of fabric Emily gave me years ago.

We visited downtown Carmel and sampled some the the best chocolate we have
ever eaten at Lulu's chocolates.

This was the month Jessica decided to cast away her cares and her curls and get a cute
new haircut.

I spent some time painting with Debbie.  This is the view from her
cabin in Montana

I loved the big windows in the hotel.
