September 2019

This was a full month for us.  I spent a lot of time harvesting and preserving food.  We also spent a lot of time helping Kevin finish his addition.  I had foot surgery on the 26th of September.  Octavia came into the world three weeks early on September 30.  She is the first member of our family to have a September Birthday.  She weighed only five pounds.  How grateful we are that she arrived safely and that she was allowed to come home from the hospital with her mother.  The addition on the house was almost finished in preparation for her coming.  It was nice to see Kevin get his Silver Beaver Award on September 7th.  Craig and I had a chilly but a very relaxing visit to Debbie's cabin in Montana.  We enjoyed the scenery, some good books and movies and I took time to paint a few pictures with my watercolors.  It was beautiful in Montana as always.  We feel so fortunate to be able to enjoy Jim and Debbie's cabin.

We were glad to be there at the right time to see it.

Just born

August 2019

August was another full month.  I celebrated my birthday at the beginning of the month.  I received many nice gifts, including a three wheeled bike, some lovely flowers, an instant, and watercolor paints.  We have spent a lot of time working in the garden, harvesting vegetables and preparing them for the freezer or canning them.  We have helped Kevin and Melany work on their home and we have been catching up on some of the work around our home.  We also attended a choir concert for Kevin and Melany's children and we made the most of our last days with Debbie.  At the end of the month we celebrated Emerson's birthday.  We were happy for Brent at the completion of a very grueling language course in preparation for his Foreign Area Officer Training.
Congratulations Brent!

July

July 2019
We continued our visit with Zariah in the first days of July.  We flew with Zariah and her Grandma Carter to California to be there for Leila's baptism.  The day we got there was the Fourth of July.  We had a barbecue and we went to the beach to watch fireworks.  It was very chilly in Monterey.  I never expected to feel cold on the Fourth of July.  It was an adventure.  Because Sister Carter was there as well, we stayed in an interesting hotel.  It was a Navy Lodge, but over one hundred years ago it had been one of the most luxurious hotels of it's time.  We had a very spacious comfortable room that was updated and remodeled.  The halls were huge and still had that old time feel to it.  We felt like we were walking back in time and we went through the elegant old building.  We visited fisherman’s wharf, took the 17 mile drive, we visited Carmel and Carmel beach and we visited Point Lobos and took some hikes along the scenic coast line.  Leila had a nice baptism and I gave a talk.  She looked so pretty in her white dress.  Loni’s Mom, and her brother and his family were also visiting.  It was nice to go to the hotel every so often to have some down time.  While we were there, I read a book called the Holy Secret by James L Ferrel.  It was really a good book.  It gave me insight into my own need to be better.
The staircases were very wide in the home.

I made myself a new garden jacket out of fabric Emily gave me years ago.

We visited downtown Carmel and sampled some the the best chocolate we have

This was the month Jessica decided to cast away her cares and her curls and get a cute
new haircut.

I spent some time painting with Debbie.  This is the view from her
