We held our annual family Halloween Party, complete with homemade soup, chili and french bread and after dinner, our pumpkin walk. Trick or treating was a hit and everyone got plenty of candy. It was good to get together.

This has been a very intense month, with rebuilding the deck, harvesting and preserving food and Pathway beginning again. We have had lots of things break down this month as well. Fortunately almost everything is working again. We did have a wonderful trip to Montana. Our trip began on August 13th. We drove all day to get to Pauline's. We usually break up the drive, but we did alright.
We stopped at Pauline's thrift shop in Hamilton. She bought me a nice wool sweater jacket in her shop. I was grateful for it because it was much cooler in Montana than in Utah. We went to Stevensville from there and visited with Bruce in his clock shop. We had dinner at Romeo's with Pauline, Bob and Bruce. We also saw Bruce's son Craig at the restaurant. We stayed at Pauline's that night and enjoyed a walk in the beautiful country side before we left to go to the reunion. We ate a delicious lunch in Lincoln, Montana. Pauline loves eating at a particular drive inn there. We arrived in Choteau at 3:00. Craig was so good to Pauline on our trip. It's one of the things I love about him. He is so good to get along with all of my family. The reunion started at 4:00 at the senior center. The Saviks were in charge. Marlin, Lew, Carol and Herald came. Edwin couldn't make it because of a recent heart attack. We were sad to learn that Deloy Denning and Melvin Pearson had both passed away. Marian, Nancy, Walter, Charles, and George were there from the Pearsons. We were also sad to learn that Walter has leukemia. Janis, David, Bonnie and Milo were there from the Packers. All of my living siblings came. We had a good visit and lots of good food. On Saturday, Bruce, Sally, Richard, Kathy, Pauline, Craig and I went to Conrad to see where we spent some of our growing up years. We saw our old schools, our little church, the hospital where some of us were born and of course our farm. I love seeing the old places and being there with my siblings. It is good to go back to where our lives began in mortality. We are blessed to be part of our family. I am impressed that the widows and one widower continue to come to our reunions. The inlaws that came were Anna and Karen Pearson, Taft Miller and Amy Packer.
Sunday we went to church in Choteau. We traveled the rest of the day getting to Debbie's cabin in the late afternoon. It is a lovely place. The sky was bright blue without a cloud in it. The air was cool and sweet and the quaking aspens are turning gold against the backdrop of green pines. It is a place of peace and quiet. We enjoyed going for walks, visiting Yellowstone and taking the razor to Wade Lake. It was a fun ride. The lake was hidden away in the mountains. It was stunningly peaceful there. It was as peaceful as anywhere I have been outside the temple. The lake is a mirror of glass with an emerald color refelecting the trees around it. We have loved looking at the stars. It has been nice to read my scriptures in the morning by a big window with a beautiful view of the sunrise. I have often wished we had a cabin. This visit has been a nice gift.

Where has August gone?

The first nice event this month was my birthday. Kevin and Melany and their family came over early in the morning and suprised me on my birthday. Danica came early as well. Dan and the children came just a little later. They brought a great variety of nice breakfast foods. I was thoroughly stuffed when I was done. After we ate they came and cleaned the church with us a service. Sunday, Missy and her family brought me a delicious German Chocolate cake. I was so blessed. Craig also took me to dinner at the Red Lobster, one of my favorite restaurants. A week before we helped a family move. They asked we wanted their piano. I was so pleased. I have a lovely keyboard that Craig gave me, but there is something about the feel of a real piano that is better for my shaky hands. I am so grateful. I have kept busy gardening, attending the temple, playing the piano, working on a quilt and reading a good book, called "Belonging to Heaven". We took a family picture for Debbie's family before Ian left on his mission. Another Saturday, Charity called and said she would like to come over and do some service with me. We cleaned the church and picked and bottled beans. Later in the day, we took Kevin's children and Dan and Danica and their children to the Dinosaur museum.
We went to the play "Daddy Long Legs" yesterday. It was a musical adaptation of the book. It was a very sweet play and I really enjoyed it.

July has been full of good things. We celebrated Emily's birthday before she returned to Michigan on July 4th. Craig and I spent a quiet 4th of July catching up on some work and taking a walk in the mountains. I got to go to my 50th class reunion on July 5th. It was a nice evening. Craig began taking me on bike rides early in the morning on Saturdays. I have really enjoyed that. We continue to work on family history and temple work. We have been grateful for the cabbage, brocolli, cucumbers, onions and raspberries. We love our yard and garden and we take great satisfaction in the things we have harvested. On the 24th, we celebrated Danica's birthday by getting together for dinner and then we went to a park, where the guys played soccer and the children enjoyed the splash pad.
